  1. What is the Digital Security by Entrust Site Seal with EV Updater technology and how does it function?

Entrust provides each client with a Digital Security by Entrust Site Seal (graphic) that can be displayed on secure web pages. By selecting the Digital Security by Entrust Site Seal, end users can review the current validity and status information about the web certificate that is used to secure the web session.

Along with your Entrust EV SSL Certificate, Entrust has provided to you, at no additional charge, a Digital Security by Entrust Site Seal that includes the Entrust EV Updater. The Entrust EV Updater is the newest technology that enables Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 on Windows Vista and Windows XP client systems to display the green address bar, organization name, and other Extended Validation interface conventions. This means that the transaction is encrypted and your company has been authenticated according to the most rigorous industry standard. Without the Entrust EV Updater, only Windows Vista clients are able to see the green address bar.

The Entrust EV Updater works by prompting the existing root update functionality in IE 7 for Windows XP on visiting client systems and therefore enabling the IE7 client to "recognize" the SSL Certificate's EV status. In the absence of the root update, no Windows XP client can ever see the green bar on your site. Windows Vista clients will be the only ones that have the ability to detect Entrust EV SSL Certificates.

Windows XP clients can install the Entrust EV SSL Root Certificate by visting a site that has the Entrust EV Updater technology or from going to the Microsoft site to check for the latest root updates. Once the Entrust EV SSL Root Certifcate is installed, the user will see the the green bar behavior whenever connecting to a valid website with an Entrust EV SSL Certificate.

    Note:
This root installation affects only the root in question and does not enable that client for EV behavior with any other root.
