It is highly recommended that you back up the Private Key for your Web Server and store the file in a secure location.

Backing up the Private Key will ensure the ability to restore the security for your Web Site in the event of a Backing Up your SSL Certificate and Private Key.

Note: To back up your private key and certificate, your private key must be exportable. Setting your private key to be exportable is set during the Key Pair creation step. If you did not set this upon creation, you will not be able to export your private key.

To back-up your private key and certificate :

  1. In Console One, located the Key Material Object (KMO) for the key pair you would like to export
  2. Double Click the KMO
  3. Select the Certificates Tab
  4. Select Public Key Certificate from the Certificates menu
  5. Hit the Export button
  6. Select the radio button for "Yes" when asked whether or not to export the Private Key
  7. Select a location for the backup file that Netware will create
  8. Enter a password to protect the key pair file
  9. N.B. It is very important to remember this password, otherwise you will not be able to import the Private Key
  10. Click Next
  11. Confirm the details, and Click Finish

You have now exported your private key pair. Please be sure to store this file in a safe place.

To restore/import your private key :

  1. Launch Console One
  2. Right click the container where your server resides
  3. Select New, and then select Object
  4. From the 'New Object' window, select NDSPKI : Key Material
  5. Click OK
  6. From the 'Create Server Certificate (key Material) window, select the server you are requesting the certificate for
  7. Specify a name (alias) for the certificate
  8. Ensure the 'Import creation method radio button is selected
  9. Click Next
  10. Navigate to the file where your exported key pair resides
  11. Select Next
  12. Enter the password associated with the private key pair
  13. Click Finish.

You have now successfully imported your private key pair and certificate.
